Air Accident near Monze
The airfield is thought to have had only one accident. It occurred in May 1976 and involved a de Havilland Twin Otter 300 operated by de Havilland Canada itself on a demonstration flight, registration C-GDHA (note the acronym).
The twin engined aircraft had initiated its climb away from the airfield after an uneventful take off roll. Unfortunately one of its engines failed during the climb. The aircraft was lost with all persons on board (11 including the pilot) after striking the ground 1km from the runway. The aircraft was barely two years old.
The aircraft shown on the right is the same one lost on 3rd May 1976. The photo was taken in July 1975 at Toronto-Downsview Airport.
